Rafa's Trez hunt
Sunday 16 July, 2006
David Trezeguet may avoid Serie B football next season after Liverpool Coach Rafa Benitez admitted that he would like to lure the French marksman.
Trezeguet was Serie A’s second top scorer last season with an impressive tally of 23 and is unlikely to accept Serie B football.
Now it seems that Benitez is willing to offer the prolific finisher an alternative. “He’s a good player, we’ll look at what happens in Italy and see what we can do,” said the Spanish tactician.
“All the Juventus players are top players and they will be a better price now than they would have been three months ago.”
The Bianconeri are resigned to losing a number of players following the Calciopoli verdict but may look to keep their hold on several stars by making loan deals.
However, the expected exodus may have already begun. It now looks almost certain that captain Fabio Cannavaro will leave Turin to rejoin ex-Juve Coach Fabio Capello at Real Madrid.
Reports from Spanish newspaper AS suggest that a deal has been agreed and that the transfer will be announced shortly.
